Intensive Outpatient Program

Build a foundation for lasting recovery

Professional addiction treatment facilities are able to follow best practices while offering a range of options, from inpatient rehab to various outpatient choices. Depending on your needs, history, and life factors, you can choose an outpatient program (OP) that is relatively low-intensity to a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that is just a step down from inpatient. Between these two choices is an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP). An IOP rehab program will offer a high level of care, provide some flexibility in meeting your commitments outside rehab, and allow you to sleep at home every night.

In our intensive outpatient program, Evoke Wellness offers evidence-based therapies provided by expert clinicians. Your quality of care is guaranteed. Want more information? Are You a Candidate for an IOP Rehab Program?

In an IOP, you will live at home and attend rehab on a set schedule. There is often an option for evening hours to accommodate work or school schedules.

An intensive outpatient addiction treatment program is often considered ideal for people who:

  • Live in a stable environment that can be made substance-free
  • Have a reliable support network at home
  • Have some limitations on their flexibility due to outside commitments
  • Do not have a co-occurring disorder
  • Do not have a history of prior relapse

Several other criteria may indicate an IOP as the best option. Discuss it during your intake session with the staff if you think intensive outpatient treatment is best for you.

What to Expect from an Intensive Outpatient Program

As the option in the middle between regular OP and a partial hospitalization program, an IOP requires a time commitment that is unique to itself. The average range is between three and five hours per day, five days per week. It is common to be at the rehab center for up to 25 hours a week.

It is usually possible to keep up with a work or school schedule, though you may have to make some adjustments. If you need a leave of absence, follow the FMLA guidelines for your company. You cannot be penalized for seeking leave to receive addiction treatment.

While enrolled in an IOP, you will receive high-level care as you participate in some if not all of the following:

  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Support groups
  • Life skills education
  • Relapse prevention sessions

You will work on the following and more:

  • More effective communications skills
  • Healing your relationships
  • Addressing underlying trauma
  • Emotional regulation
  • Mindfulness
  • Other forms of self-care

An intensive outpatient addiction treatment program will support you with an individualized treatment plan, evidence-based therapies, wrap-around care, access to professionals, and a solid peer group to help you feel supported and stay accountable.
